On Saturday the lovely people at The Piano Works invited me and a plus one to try out their bottomless brunch.

Never one to turn down complimentary food or alcohol, I decided to take my best pal (who you’ll all be well acquainted with if you follow me on Instagram) for her birthday.

We were a bit unsure about what to expect… but oh my god was it good!

Walking in dazed and confused we were shown to our table and introduced to our amazing waiter Issa.

He briskly got us a bottle of prosecco and we set about looking at the menu and working out how we could request as many embarrassing songs as possible!

Before I go on about what a fantastic time we had… let me start with the food. My god it was so good! I really wasn’t expecting it to be, because I thought the focus would be more on the music and the experience, rather than what people were actually eating. I STAND CORRECTED!

I went for the classic… Severn wye smoked salmon, burford brown eggs scrambled, rocket on sourdough toast and Char went for ‘love me or hate me eggs benedict’, which for those of us who have no idea what that would be it’s Burford brown eggs poached, bacon, marmite hollandaise sauce on an english muffin.

GOOD GOD IT WAS GOOD.

So… the lighting was terrible for a photo novice like me, so CJ had to improvise with our phone torches.

(shout out to Paul the photographer for catching this perfectly!!)

And here was our lovely little set up… not too shabby at all, I’m sure you’ll agree!

After demolishing our breakfasts, we continued on with the cheesy requests and sinking far too much prosecco!

Yes I did request 50 Cent – Candy Shop (massive props to the band for actually playing this) and The Ying Yang Twins Whisper Song #sorrynotsorry.

A few people came up to us and asked why we’d come in a two and how we were having so much fun (apart from the fact we’re massive bloody legends).

I have to say, this is not something you need to save for a special occasion and you absolutely do not have to be in a big group. We had the best best time just the two of us, so please don’t think you have to wait for 20 of you to finally coordinate your terribly busy diaries. Go in a two man team and sink three bottles of prosecco (or as many bloody Mary’s as you can handle – the other bottomless brunch option). You know you want to!

Shoutout to Paul again for that beauty!

As you’ve already gathered, we had an absolute whale of a time! We far outstayed our 2 hour welcome and hid in the back until the band re-started at 5pm.. muahaha!

We thought we were the only weirdos doing it… but we found two other groups who’d had the exact same idea and joined forces!! Needless to say the afternoon escalated from there!

Remember Issa I mentioned at the start? WELL HERE HE BLOODY IS! (Thanks for this beauty too Paul)

Some serious shapes were also thrown on the dance floor…

And when we finally left 6 hours later… we were horrified to find out it was still BROAD DAYLIGHT!!

However, the friendly door staff were on hand to occupy the ladies while I hailed the uber!

I think it’s safe to say they got on famously!

What a day! I would recommend this to ANYBODY. We had so much fun, the singers were amazing, the atmosphere was amazing and we just had an absolute hoot.

I’ve already frantically texted as many friends as possible so I can arrange another visit soon!

So here’s what you’ve all been waiting for… The final result… And I’m sure you won’t be surprised!

So the lovely people at Ahi Poke invited me to come down and try their delicious food. I took the Mr along for a proper taste test – whilst their food is my dream, it’s the sort of thing I’d never dare make for him.

So we got there… to the most DREAMY and spotlessly clean little cafe (honestly, never seen anywhere so clean, it was amazing!!!).

They also had an unbelievable playlist. I could have sat there for hours – definitely a place to while away the afternoon if you’re lucky enough to be able to work wherever you want.

The Mr went for their Oahu bowl with extra avo (obvs) which was filled with rice, ahi tuna (raw), red onion, radish and coriander with a sesame shoyu dressing (sesame oil and soy sauce). Now, this is a little out there for his taste buds, but he LOVED it. So much so that I’ve had to teach him how to make something similar so he can take it to work!!

I built my own bowl and went for a quinoa base, kimchi cucumber, pickled ginger, edmame beans, julienned carrot, sliced radish, coriander, extra avo and the sesame shoyu dressing.

Such a perfect lunchtime treat, I’m genuinely gutted I can’t get it delivered to my office every day. Filling without being bloaty or giving you the afternoon sleepiness. 10/10 guys. And shout out to our lovely server who was just an absolute babe.

We also tried the pineapple in an earl grey and coconut syrup (which I didn’t get a photo of because we ate it too quick) and it was tasty as heeeellllllll.

So during my little trip to Amsterdam, myself and the boyf stumbled across Bakers and Roasters on Kadijksplein.

Me being me, I’d done my research on Instagram and thought it looked worth a visit, but it was genuinely better than I could have thought!

We opted to sit inside, so had to wait for approx 20 minutes for a table, but were given tea and a table outside while we waited.

We decided to go for  a savoury dish each and share the pancakes (I would advise everyone to do this… and I can’t understand why anyone wouldn’t!!) Only complaint was that it didn’t all come at once. I had to wait for my veggie breakfast for about 15 minutes after the other two dishes arrived. So I just had to get started on the pancakes while I was waiting!

So here we go:

Pancakes with banana, berries and golden syrup. Simple, effective and down right delicious! P.s. please spy the tastiest matcha latte I’ve ever had… Couldn’t tell you what almond milk was used, so if anyone finds out PLEASE let me know, I want to recreate at home!

Next up was the Mr’s green shakshuka – now believe me when I tell you, I honestly can’t believe he ate AND enjoyed this – he’s not the greenest man around, so naturally he had to add bacon! This was spinach, broccoli, baked feta, avocado and lots of other greeny goodness. It was so good, he didn’t even let me try it! So that’s the best review you can get!

I had the veggie breakfrast which consisted of two organic free-range poached eggs, grilled haloumi, avocado, breakfast potatoes, creamy mushrooms, homemade chilli jam & hot buttered toast. DEEEELICIOUS.

Bocconcino, Mayfair

So last Wednesday I was invited by the lovely people at Bocconcino, Mayfair to sample the delights of their menu.

I don’t post about places I don’t enjoy, so I was nervous going to a restaurant at their invitation. However… WHAT A PLACE!

After looking at their social media I thought, hmm just a normal nice restaurant, but then I snuck a peek at their menu… and daaaaamn.

We were greeted on arrival by a lovely hostess and taken to a nice little, slightly quieter back room. There is a downstairs, which is all open next to the kitchen, which is perfect if you’re just looking for some tasty food and a chat… but the back room has a littttle something extra. Low lighting, comfortable armchairs to relax in in-between courses and booths for those that want that little bit je ne sais quoi. Perfect for a special occasion or if you’re wanting to impress on a date.

But anyway enough about the decor, let’s get on with the food…

To start I had tuna tartare (one of my favourite things ever)…

IMG_4162

My friend had calamari… and we had a cheesy garlic bread to share!

IMG_4166

And then.. the main event….

CINGHIALEEEEE… WOOOOAHHHH (genuine dreamboat of a pasta dish… Last time I ordered this with a different friend, he laughed at me and said “ohhh wild boar, of couuuurse”… then he tried it and it blew his damn mind). So yes, wild boar ragu for me… and it was a taste bloody sensation. One of the best I’ve had, by a loooong long way (with the exception of the little wild boar and blueberries number my dad whips up.. hi Dad!).

IMG_4176

And fillet of beef for my pal (I tried it.. it was amazing)…

IMG_4175

And finallyyyyy the pudding.. our lovely waitress tried to talk us into getting the sweet pizza, apparently it’s the restaurant’s specialty dessert. But we were far far FAR too full to even contemplate that.

I went for the hazelnut semifreddo in the end, which was incred. JUST LOOK AT IT! And clock the cheeky sorbet in the background too!!

IMG_4186

All in all, I honestly could not fault the food or the service. We had the most gorgeous waitress, who was so helpful, giving great recommendations and making sure we tried all the best things… AND the sommelier was next level! Usually I’m a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc person and I refuse to budge, but he whipped out this bad boy and I may have been swayed forever!
